Depression
Depression (also called Major Depressive Disorder or Clinical Depression) is the most common mental health disorder worldwide. Everyone feels low at some point in their lives but when this low mood persists and we are unable to bounce back, coupled with a sense of hopelessness, emptiness and thoughts of dying, a diagnosis of depression may be made.
Common symptoms:
- Persistent low mood
- Loss of interest in activities
- Loss of motivation to do even day to day things
- Having frequent breakdowns
- Sleep issues
- Thoughts of dying
- Changes in appetite
- Guilt
Conditions associated with untreated Depression:
Untreated depression can destroy your life. It affects all areas of life from personal to professional to sexual life. Severe depression may incapacitate a person to a point where they may even ignore their basic survival needs of eating and drinking. Untreated depression is also associated with diminishing immune function which makes you more susceptible to infections. Substance abuse may both be the cause and consequence of depression. The risk of suicide remains high in untreated depression of even mild severity.
