What are Anger issues/ Intermittent Explosive Episodes :
Characterised by sudden episodes of anger or rage in which a person might even become physically violent. These episodes may last from a few seconds to a few minutes and might or might not be followed by a feeling of guilt and regret on the part of the offending individual. The intensity of anger is significantly disproportionate to the situation. Recurrent such episodes may be a sign of Intermittent Explosive Episodes. Most people with IED also struggle with anxiety, depression, substance use, ADD or personality disorders.
Common symptoms:
- Intense episodic anger
- Rage
- Temper tantrums
- Physical aggression leading to altercation with others
- Physical aggression leading to damage of property or animals
Causes:
- Personality disorders (Narcissistic, Anti-social, Borderline)
- Substance use/addictions
- ADHD
- History of abuse during childhood
- Emotional abuse
Conditions associated with untreated IED :
- Relationship troubles
- Workplace & financial problems
- Legal issues
- Substance abuse
- Anxiety, Depression
- Self-harm behaviour
- Suicide
